This great news just in from Beth Styler Barry, Executive Director of the Musconetcong Watershed Association, a partner with NJTU working together on watershed issues related to the Musconetcong River and its watershed:

"Last night, the Warren County Board of Chosen Freeholders voted to fund a portion of the acquisition (along with NJ DEP Green Acres and Farmland Preservation (SADC) and New Jersey Audubon Society) of a 350 acre property in Warren County. This property is located on both sides of Point Mountain Road and fronts on Route 57 near Anderson Road. Those of you who have ever hiked Point Mountain with the MWA have heard me speak of the project and its potential impact.

"There was a plan before the Mansfield Township Planning Board that would have allowed the construction of 540 homes, downsized from an original proposal of 760, on this property. In my opinion, the preservation of this property removes a great threat to the health of the Musconetcong River and I thank Bob Resker Administrator of the Warren County Board of Land Preservation for his perseverance over the past four YEARS and his continued recognition that the preservation of land along the river needs to be given the highest priority when it becomes available for preservation."

Volunteer

Project Healing Waters
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing is a national organization dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and veterans through fly fishing and fly tying education and outings. A very active NJ group works with veterans from the VA hospital in Lyons, NJ, holding fly tying sessions and hosting fishing outings at the Pequest hatchery and other locations, and they could always use more help. Please contact our own JSTU member David Bucko, the NJ State Coordinator for Project Healing Waters, to find out more information about this fine program or to volunteer some of your time and talent.

Help Out at the Outdoor Expo and Fishing Derby
The Jersey Shore Chapter of TU will again be hosting a Fishing Derby at the Monmouth County Park Systems annual Outdoor Adventure Expo which will be held this year on May 20, 2012. The Expo runs from 11:00am until 5:00pm, with the Fishing Derby from 12:00-2:00pm. We will need lots of help for the Derby as we often have more than 100 kids participating. Help is also needed to staff the JSTU booth at the Expo. Please consider volunteering for this fun and important outreach event. Contact Jim Ketchersid for more information or to volunteer to help.
